A great brunch place, Coral Tree might be a lil too busy for mere coffee drinkers during its rush hours. Still, it’s a chill place to hang out, with both outdoor and indoor seating and yummy food. The coffe comes from Groundwork Coffee (listed under “All Over”).

Literati Cafe. 12081 Wilshire Blvd. 310.231.7484. Literati says its coffee’s fair trade and organic, which I’m inclined to believe, cuz their food’s organic and v. yummy. I like it there, though some of my fellow grad students complain that the place is overrun with screenwriters clicking away on laptops, eavesdropping for interesting conversations…

Beverly
Atomic Cafe. 265 Cabot St. 978.922.0042. Fresh food, baked goods, and fair trade certified coffee.

Boston
Espresso Royale. 3 locations: 736 Commonwealth Ave.; 286 Newbury St.; 44 Gainsborough St. Although not primarily fair trade, ER offers fair trade coffee as a brewed option every day in each of its cafes :)

Flat Black Coffee Co. 50 Broad St. (Financial District). Very cool locally owned café that serves Indigo Coffee Roasters fair trade espressos and coffees, though they plan to begin roasting their own coffee.

JP Licks. 2 locations in Boston: 352 Newbury St.; One Brigham Circle (Mission Hill), 1618 Tremont St. This coffee shop roasts its own beans and brews a few fair trade coffees daily; be sure to ask for the fair trade brew.

Cafe Zing at Porter Square Books. Porter Square Shopping Center. 25 White St. 617.491.2220. A small all fair-trade cafe in a bookstore. Both the tea and coffee’s from Equal Exchange.

Harvard University Dining Services. Thanks to the work of the Harvard Fair Trade Initiative, HUDS now brews and serves fair trade coffee every day.

Clear Conscience Cafe. 581 Massachusetts Ave. 617.661.1580. All the food, coffee, and tea at Clear Conscience is organic, except the pastries. The coffee’s fair trade too.

Veggie Planet Pizza. 47 Palmer St. 617.661.1513. A great veggie/vegan pizza joint in Harvard Square that’s deeply committed to local/sustainable agriculture and serves Equal Exchange coffee. Veggie Planet also shares the space with Club Passim, a folk music venue.

Danvers
Daily Harvest Café. 103 High St. Healthy sandwiches, salads, and baked goods, plus fair trade certified coffee from Atomic Café in Beverly.

Dorchester

Ipswich
Zumis. 40 Market St. 978.356.1988. This cafe, which works with Coffeelands Trust work to raise awareness, about landmine victims’ in coffee growing communities, serves all organic fair trade coffee.

Jamaica Plain
Canto 6 Bakery & Café. 3346 Washington St. 617.983.8688. Some of the best pastries, quiche, and homemade truffles in town, with Equal Exchange espresso and coffee.

City Feed & Supply. 66 Boylston St. 617.524.1657. Really fabulous locally owned grocer/convenience store. Owners are totally committed to fair trade. Sells EE espresso, coffee, tea and carries bulk coffee, as well as lots of wonderful local produce (when in season) and lots of amazing yummy groceries. Fabulous neighborhood meeting place.

Harvest Co-op Cafe. 57 South St. 617.524.1667. The food co-op carries nearly every available fair trade certified product and serves Equal Exchange coffee and tea.
