It’s happening! USC’s going to start brewing a fair trade certified blend at most of its campus locations next semester!
This follows quickly on the heels of the fair trade coffee tasting, held about a week and a half ago. Lore of Hospitality Services said that the fair trade blends are already on order, but it’ll take a couple weeks for the order to come in and work out some logistics. Considering the holidays and all, and considering that the last day of classes is on Dec. 2, Lore can’t guarantee the new blends will be brewing until next semester. Still, USC Hospitality Services has been super helpful and relatively quick in responding to students!
The conversion won’t be 100% — but a fair trade certified blend will be offered at all USC outlets that offer Starbucks coffees. These, by the way, are not licensed Starbucks stores — They’re USC-owned cafes — like Trojan Grounds — that “proudly brew Starbucks.”
BTW — if, like me, you’ve been circling Doheny Library once a week to see if this mysterious Doheny Tea House is open yet — The tea house hit a lil snafu with inspections and won’t be open till next semester either. Not sure what happened exactly, but when it opens, it’ll always have Peet’s fair trade coffee on brew :)

Do we have tea at USC? I think I’d try and tackle the chocolate issue first — i.e. getting Nestle kicked off campus –
