While I love BuyBlue, I’m not in love with their gift list. Gap uses sweatshops, and Starbucks hasn’t improved their fair trade friendliness as of yet, even after admitting a “break down in customer service” 2 months ago.
I mean, I still heart BuyBlue, but I want what I want. And I wanna make it easier for anyone planning to get green LA girl a gift during this holiday season ;) Why make a list of gifts that people should buy other people, when you can make a list of gifts that people can buy you?
Thus, my totally self-serving, megalomaniacal holiday gift list –
If you don’t have much cash, get me this Stapless Stapler. I’ve been curious about this gizmo for a long, long time, and wanna freecycle the stapler I have now.
If you heart gurl rock, get me a What would Joan Jett do? shirt, from BUST’s boobtique. I’d like it in red, small. Thanks.
In terms of actual music, I’d love to get Andrew Bird’s And the Mysterious Production of Eggs, Portishead’s Dummy, Spoon’s Gimme Fiction, and The Dresden Dolls‘ self-titled CD.
If you’re tired of hearing me bitch about my “writer’s block,” get me this Recycled Paper Journal and Pencil Set from Gaiam — The travel edition. We’re talking recycled paper, soy based inks, newspaper pencils. I’ll start writing again. I promise.
Don’t like paper? Then check out the Turning a New Leaf journal from World of Good — fair trade recycled cotton.
Conversely, if you’re glad I quit writing, buy me more books so I’ll spend my time reading instead of writing. You can check out the books I want here, and buy them at your local bookstore — My 5 fave indie LA bookshops are listed here.
If you want me to start composting already, get me this Topsy Turvy Upside-down Tomato Planter. I’ll start composting, and I’ll never need to buy tomatos again. I just need a lil help getting it hung up in my balcony.
But if you can’t help me with the hanging bit, get me a Garden-In-A-Bag. I heart fresh basil.
If you feel green LA girl’s gone too green, buy me a pewter blue wide neck crew, avaliable from Pangaya. I’m hoping this organic cotton shirt feels as comfy as it looks.
If you’re anti consumer products, dedicate a tree to me, through TreePeople. For $25, TreePeople will plant a tree in my honor — This group’s goal is to inspire the people of Los Angeles to take personal responsibility for the urban forest. The one annoying feature: You gotta call. It’ll be worth it though. (818) 753-TREE.
Or, get me the Gift of Oxfam. Make a donation in my name, and send me one of the cute cards letting me know you did so. I’m especially partial to the “Can you dig it” card. Yes, I dig.
And if you want me to get back to blogging more serious stuff already, buy an ad. I’m worth it, and proceeds go towards buying a bike for yours truly.
