I got the “we’re small so we don’t have Cafe Estima” line again yesterday, at this Starbucks on the Bunker Hill steps downtown (left). “But,” the barista added nervously, “all our, most of our coffee, uh, has some fair trade…”
Riiight. Poor dude. I thanked him and said I’d try another Starbucks a half block up.
But why go to the mermaid when you can go to Java City? This NoCal-based coffee chain has lotso fair trade coffee blends, and are conveniently located in the Wells Fargo Center for all the working drones — I mean, hardworking folk — in the Bunker Hill area.
Can’t find ‘em? Look for Le Petit Boulangerie (left). Walk in, and you’ll see the big Java City signs. Unless you tried going there yesterday afternoon like I did — Java City closed early for the holidays :(
Oh well. I looked across the street to the building where I used to work back in the follies of my youth (right), reminiscing. On a clear day, we could see all the way to the ocean from the conference room on the 49th floor. We’d all stare out longingly during meetings, daydreaming of days free of paper-shuffling –
To my old friends at the Capital Group: Ha ha — Suckers –
Java City / Le Petit Boulangerie. Wells Fargo Center. 330 S. Hope St. Los Angeles. 213.613.1525.

Can’t grow taller, huh? I should have thought of that one. 4′ 10″ here… with a 6′ tall son. If he pats me on the head one more time…

I’m 5′4″, but happily son-free :)

I dunno what a meme is, but I think I’ve figured out what I have to do…

Another place I recently noticed in downtown with fair trade coffee is Picnicland, near the Hope St. entrance of Central Market. Unfortunately, I’m not a coffee drinker to know how good the coffee is.

ahem…it’s NorCal not NoCal-which makes it seem like we have no “Cal” (which i’m sure native SoCalers would argue…)

Ha ha — Did you see the SFist post making fun of LA for being one of the fattest cities, while SF’s one of the leanest? Which brings me back to — NoCal ;)

OMG, I would have never thought that I come across someone else who has read and LOVES Story of The Eye. I also can watch the Dreamers over and over and over and I do. Any who. I love the java city and le petit boulangerie, I got 2-3 times a week for a caffine fix and a bacon eggg and cheese coissant.
