Josh -- Declarations of love are always welcome. Thank you. Thank you.

Roger -- Is Guiness your guilty indulgence? You know, cuz you usually brew your own beer, yes? I used to kinda like Guiness, but then my metabolism slowed down in my 20s...

Oh Siel -- its too late. When I lived and worked in Dublin in 1980, I worked at the Woolworths (American dime store) on Grafton Street, across the street from McDonalds.

But oh the smell of Guiness out in the neighborhood where I was staying near the brewery . . . (grin)

I knew about the Starbucks in Ireland, thanks to Dec's rambling -- Dec took the challenge at both stores. It looks like getting fair trade coffee isn't a problem there. But as for the mega corp's tendency to make your city look more and more like our cities... well...

Is there maybe something you can do over there to stop the other six outlets?

After Starbucks on every corner in Christchurch, NZ I returned to - as I thought - Starbuck-free Ireland only to nearly cause a commotion on Dame Street when I stopped dead on the footpath at the sight of a newly opened Starbucks. And it's not the first branch either. They're already opened in the shiny new Dundrum Town Centre and, according to an Irish Times article, are working on getting six outlets open in the next year. I guess I should do the Starbucks Challenge in Ireland now but I just can't bring myself to go into the shop!
