Moving’s stressful. So stressful that I’ve really been drinking way too much this week, even for my standards.
It started with a few innocent bottles of wine, then an all-out binge at happy hour on Wed. at the World Cafe with my friend Amy. Then again yesterday at Green Drinks. Now I need to prep for the Cinco de Mayo party tonight.
You can see why I tend to be unproductive.
But I’m tabling that worry for a lil while, while looking at the bright side of things as a new resident of Santa Monica. For one, I’m living much closer to my fave watering holes now. Think of all the gas money I’ll be able to save for drinks. I’m an easy biking distance from the World Cafe!
Except I don’t yet have a bike. I’m way behind ex-mayor Riordan, who says he’ll ditch his car and opt to bike 1 day a month. And to help would-be bikers along, Melissa’s posted a nice roundup of bike resources on Living Green in LA.
So I’m gonna try and check out this big bike sale tomorrow. Hopefully I’ll be able to figure out what I need –
Update: [Here's step 2]

The shame is I only feel social when I drink (like, um, now), and I obviously can’t drive out to LA when I’ve been drinking. But one of these days, I’ll have to take the train out so we can split a bottle of wine … And don’t worry, alcoholism is de rigeur for graduate students. If you make it through your studies without a chemical dependency of some sort, you haven’t really tried …

Interesting dilemma — I tend to be social or antisocial independent of my level of sobriety. I guess it’s a lil far to cab it over to the city from where you are :)
Yesterday I only had 1 glass of wine. Yey me!

Have you checked Freecycle? Just last week 2 bikes were being given chances for a new life.

I’m sort of hard to fit — plus, the bikes are usually kinda far away, and I don’t have the kind of car to transport them in. I did, however, buy a bike nearby! (see update above)

I just moved to Santa Monica as well! What neighborhood are you in? There’s a great bike repair place on Ocean Park that’s family-owned and has been there forever…if your bike ever needs fixin’ :)

Which one? I feel like there are bike repair places all over the place –
I’m near Pico and Lincoln :) You?

Pico a couple blocks W of Centinela… I think it’s called the Bicycle Workshop. By the way, I tried to eat a Mani’s Bakery on Main this weekend and there wasn’t anything that my poor macrobiotic self could eat…so I ended up at Urth as usual :)
