Literally, I mean. I’ll be in Arizona — where it’s like 102 degrees today — for a long weekend, visiting Kate, a friend from college.
In my excitement, I’ve added an “Arizona” category to the sidebar ;) On the green itinerary: Visit the eco-village nearby, where apparently one can get the yummiest bean burgers ever. Camp, maybe. Do a lil yoga. And most importantly, go out for happy hour as soon as I get off the plane –
I’ll be in the Tempe / Phoenix area till Monday if you wanna send along any recommendations for things & places to try :)

Didn’t think GreenLAGirl could get any hotter. Rarrr!

Go to Arcosanti, or at least Cosanti. I spent a summer doing the workshop there, and it fantastic. Can’t comment on the coffe though!

I’ve heard On the Border is a good Mexican restaurant. This suggestion came from my 59-year-old mother, so be cautious. Most of my experience with the Phoenix area was in Mesa, on the east side, and it’s been seven years and the city has changed a lot since ‘99, so I’ve been told.
However… if you’re seriously into hiking, try Tonto National Forest’s Superstition Wilderness trails. I don’t recall which I hiked (Dutchman’s, I think), but ask which leads to Flatiron. Hike it as far as you can. Assuming the previous day was windy, it offers some outstanding views of the city below - a lot of driving from downtown, but worth it on a good day.
The only thing I know about Tempe is that I got dragged there too often by my sports-obsessed grandfather as a kid. M.L.B. holds spring training there.
