How I’m voting for the environment on Nov. 7, 2006, for the City of Santa Monica. Here are my votes for the state-level propositions and for the state-level offices.
My votes for Santa Monica Rent Control Board Members (3 people):
* Jennifer Kennedy
* Zelia Mollica
* Marilyn Korade-Wilson
What does the Santa Monica Rent Control Board do?: The Rent Control Board’s composed of 5 elected members. The board makes rules and regulations about owning and renting property in Santa Monica.
______
Voting’s exhausting. Luckily, there are only 4 people running for 3 open positions on the Rent Control Board, and the one I don’t want on there’s easy to weed out.
But first, the peeps I’m voting for — all of whom have been endorsed by the Santa Monicans for Renters Rights and the Santa Monica Democratic Club.
Jennifer Kennedy. A current board member and homemaker who says she’ll continue to work for affordable housing to preserve economic and social diversity.
Zelia Mollica. A bookkeeper who’s been involved with renters issues via LA Voice, who wants to further social justice and diversity in Santa Monica.
Marilyn Korade-Wilson. A retired educator who’s worked as a volunteer on the Santa Monicans for Renters Rights hotline.

The odd runner out that I won’t be voting for is Robert Kronovet, who sez the “opposing party” is “nothing but a revamp and a reissue of the we have been hearing from them for the last 28 years.” I have no idea as to what he means by opposing party — but as an apartment tenant in Santa Monica, I have to say I’ve been quite happy with the job the Board’s been doing, and am not sure I wanna elect someone who sees the people he’ll need to work with as the “opposing party.”
And this phrase in Robert’s statements — “As an American my blood runs with same democratic principals as our founders” — kinda bugs me. And not just cuz of the spelling error.

Thank you for your vote, and kind words.
Zelia
