If you heart kombucha — but don’t heart paying $3 a bottle at Whole Foods — join the Kamp!
Host and brewmaster and my friend Hannah Crum sez “if you can brew tea, then you’ve got all the skills necessary to brew Kombucha and reap the amazing health benefits at a fraction of the cost.”
This free class (donations are welcome) will teach you how to make your own kombucha — and even give you your own kombucha baby (SCOBY - Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Yeasts) for kombucha making fun.
Space is limited, as it’ll be held in Hannah’s house in LA (near Culver City) — so email Hannah at hannahcrum at yahoo.com ASAP if you plan to attend.
I’ve already started saving empty bottles in anticipation –

Hi greenLAgirl. You are more than welcome. I`m feeling very honoured by the fact you choose this picture, actually I like it a lot ;-)) and I do very much appreciate your questioning to use it.
Pitty I don`t live in your area, I really would like to learn doing my own Kombucha. I drink it on an almost daily base and it`s quite expensive on this side of the planet, too. Have a great time and best wishes for your future.

Yeah - I’ve heard from some people who’ve tried making their own that the kombucha made itself so fast they couldn’t “keep up”! I think part of the reason Hannah’s doing it is she has many many extra kombucha babies now, and wants them to go to good use –

If you like komboucha you might like other cultured drinks. I’ve been drinking homemade coconut kefir for about a year. It tastes like a bubbly tart juice and it’s full of minerals and probiotics. I also just started making Filmjolk, a swedish yogurt-y type drink. Yum. I make it with TJs organic milk and it’s so creamy. I will share my cultures with you if you like.

Truffula offered filmjolk culture? I lost mine several months ago and have not been able to locate more. Are you willing to share? How? I am dying to get a new batch started.

HI,
Jennifer…
I just started drinking coconut kephir as well…
I have a toned body and would like to keep it that way… I notice when I drink fermented beverages… red wine… apple cider vinegar or coconut kephir I lose muscle tone… Is it all in my head?
I did notice a flatter abdomen…less sugar cravings…
do you notice the muscle tone thing? What changes have you noticed in your body specifically?
I also have been getting a lot more compliments on my skin and I have to say it looks flawless thanks to coconut kephir but I don’t want to lose my toned appearanced.

I haven’t noticed any changes in muscle tone, but then I’ve been drinking red wine for a long time. Odd! Haven’t heard about this issue from anyone else…

It is actually not difficult to find a scoby to start your own batch of tea. They can be purchased at a number of different sites on the web or you can join one of the many kombucha groups on yahoogroups and find someone with extras who is willing to send you one for the cost of postage. You might even discover that someone near you is brewing and you can pick one up.
