Last post, I surmised that perhaps hoping that someone will take Mut off my hands for a couple months and pay for insurance / maintenance crap while I decide if I can live without a car is a bit of a fantasy.

But it’s happened! Turns out, one of my fave readers — and one devout Starbucks Challenger — just had his car kaput on him. This sad turn of events actually led to sadder ones: the tear of a thumb tendon. As Larry puts it: “No car = tune up bicycle and ride it more = fall off bicycle and smush thumb, tearing tendon.”

Bikes can be so cruel. Anyway, yesterday we happily made the trade-off. He actually lives like a 10 min car ride from me, so it’s a perfect situation — esp. as Larry is in the midst of expanding his biz, and does quite legitimately need a car (he helps fix computer problems for people, who live all over the city).

For those who may be concerned about safety issues for me: It’s a safe arrangement. I mean, I know where he lives, works — and even where his girlfriend works. And at this point, I even have his social security #, from adding him to my car insurance plan :P Of course, I already knew Larry was a good guy before we did all that –

Anyway — For now, Mut has found a nice temporary new home. And I can focus my energies entirely on car-free mobility starting today –
