TJ Maxx and Marshalls now offer fair trade coffee

Posted by Siel in caffeine, fairtrade (Monday March 12, 2007 at 9:26 am)

Now discount clothing stores are jumping on the fair trade coffee bandwagon. Come mid-March, TJ Maxx and Marshalls will be selling 100% fair trade, organic coffee from Nectar of Life Coffee Company.

Nectar of Life describes itself as “a kosher certified wholesale gourmet coffee roaster that exclusively roasts shade grown Fair Trade organic coffee.” At $5.99 for a 10 oz bag, the coffee’ll be a very reasonable price for bargain-seeking shoppers.

This news seems a bit odd to me, mainly because I thought TJ Maxx and Marshalls only sold clothing. Granted, I haven’t been there in years — Maybe they’re more like Target now? In fact, I didn’t even know we had TJ Maxx stores in the LA area, but we do — in LA, Culver City, Westlake Village, Torrance, etc. We have Marshalls in LA, Culver City, and W. LA.

So now we know where their coffee’s gonna come from! I wonder if their clothing chain is as transparent — Anyone shop there and have details?
