If I lived in Lawrence, Kansas, I’d eat at Local Burger everyday. Featured in the “Eat” episode of Sundance’s 14-week series called The Green, this fast food joint serves all sorts burgers made from local, grass-fed, hormone-free meat including elk and buffalo, as well as a bunch of yummy-looking veggie dishes.
In “Eat,” Local Burger runs a sort of reverse Supersize Me diet, switching one dude’s diet from a conventional fast food to Local Burger food for 30 days. The result — a 20 lb weight loss, and a back-to-normal blood pressure.
I don’t think we have a local fast food joint of the same green caliber in LA, but “Eat” does feature a downtown LA restaurant called Blue Velvet — which I’m now determined to check out. It’s a higher end restaurant that changes its menu seasonally, uses locally grown produce — and is even planning a rooftop garden that’ll hopefully grow 60% of the restaurant’s produce. Also, Blue Velvet’s wine list looks impressive –
“Eat” airs on the Sundance channel Tomorrow, Tuesday, May 15, at 9 pm. Don’t have cable? You can download the episodes via iTunes.

“Eat” sounds intriguing, I’ll keep an eye out for it.
Food in photo looks delicious, btw.

“Eat’ does sound fantastic. I wish some smart entrepreneur would do the same kind of thing here. ‘ Blue Velvet’ is very, very good. The setting is as impressive as the food, to be honest. It’s not cheap, but worth every penny for a special night out.

Maybe I’ll have my bday dinner at Blue Velvet. But then I’d have to wait until November –

Wow! It’s my dream to open an organic fast food restaurant powered by local farms. So what a timely and inspirational post. I sent Hilary an email congratulating her on her accomplishment. As always, Siel, you’re on it, sister!!!!!

I saw the spread for Blue Velvet too and wish I could check it out (too broke right now though). Just how eggspensive is it? Which dishes has anyone tried? Is it better than RFD?
I just got dumped…need a good night out :(
