Damien and Jen threw a pool party on Sunday, so I got on the 304 with a copy of Anti-Oedipus.
By the time I got to the pool, I’d read ’bout 30 pages and lost all interest in post-structuralism.
So I raided Damien’s bookshelf, and nabbed a copy of Hunter S. Thompson’s Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
Green reading tip: Borrow.
Journalism is not a prefession or a trade. It is a cheap catch-all for fuckoffs and misfits — a false doorway to the backside of life, a filthy piss-ridden little hole nailed off by the building inspector, but just deep enough for a wino to curl up from the sidewalk and masturbate like a chimp in a zoo-cage.
Perfect poolside reading.

I think that there’s a realy dramatic case of diminishing returns when it comes to literary theory. I did two semesters of it in undergrad, and read a bit afterwards, but I have to say that sometime around the middle of the second semester was the point where it transformed from thinking about how to approach the act of reading/criticism to primarily navel-gazing. I do have to admit that the heavily New Critic-influenced regular lit classes had far more to do with my thoughts on literary theory than did any of the theoretical reading that I did.
