30 books in 30 days: Book exchange party

Goal for June: Read a book a day. Follow my reading list here.

To commemorate what I’m hoping will be the successful completion of my June goal, I’m thinking of having a book exchange party.

Green reading tip: Trade books you no longer want for ones you do, instead of buying new books.

The idea: Every partygoer brings a book or few they no longer want. People put books on a table, then mingle. I’m considering name tags, noting name and books brought, to pique people’s interest in the books, but that may be getting too nerdy…. In any case, over drinks, people discuss books. Or other stuff.

At the end of the night, everyone gets to pick out the books they want and goes home happier than they came. The 30th is a Saturday, after all — and hopefully by then I’ll have mint for mojitos….

This party plan has nothing to do with the book I read, Faulkner’s The Sound and the Fury, borrowed from the Santa Monica library. Good book, though Faulkner’s depressing, obsessed with the decline of the south, moral emptiness, racism…. A good book for a rainy day?

Book read: William Faulkner, The Sound and the Fury

Sheesh Siel! I couldn’t rush through Faulkner that fast. I spend about 1 day per page with him!

  2. deliberately Says:

Faulkner’s a master! Maybe you have to be in the right part of the country to connect with his themes?

  3. Kay Says:

I’m guessing you don’t have kids because you still have time to read a book a day!

  4. Liza Says:

Wow! Kudos for you on reading a book a day!

Maybe I can interview you sometime this month for my book blog!

  5. Siel Says:

I get the feeling kids are extremely unhelpful in terms of achieving most time-intensive goals.

Sure Liza — Just email me :)
