SoCal student environmentalists on Sundance

Suddenly, a lot of people I know are on Sundance. Sara Laimon, whose party I went to here, is all over “Kids”, the latest episode of Sundance’s 14-week series called The Green.

Sara leads a “Plastics are forever” educational program at Environmental Charter High School in Lawndale, Calif., where she’s a teacher. During the show, the SoCal students make little boats and rafts made of waste materials fished out of the LA River. The idea: To educate and promote alternatives to plastics like styrofoam.

These students were probably instrumental in getting our styrofoam ban passed in Santa Monica.

See if the boats float, and learn about other enviro-educational efforts both driven by and targeted towards kids on Sundance.

“Kids” airs on the Sundance channel tomorrow, Tuesday, June 12, at 9 pm. Don’t have cable? You can download the episodes via iTunes.

You might want to rewrite the sentence “To educate and promote alternatives to plastic, especially styrofoam.” as it sounds like styrofoam is a preferred alternative to plastic.

    Haha — Good point –
