17th Street’s one of the friendliest streets ever, complete with inviting seats set out by the sidewalk. All along the street, palm tree chairs and benches welcome neighbors and passersby to take a load off.
At first I thought the benches were up for grabs, but then noticed they were chained to nearby trees.
And apparently, lotsa parents live on 17th, cuz it’s the street of kiddie swings. The popular models’re made of plastic, in blue or red.


The fortuitous meeting of upper middle class wealth and a tree-lined street –




Run down to Pico, and 17th basically turns into the rampway into SMC parking lot.
But the street begins anew south of the SMC (Santa Monica College) campus, taking you through a hilly residential neighborhood until it curves into a dead-end, blocked off with a low metal fence –
