The Flyaway rocks. Just get to the northeast corner of Weyburn and Kinross in Westwood on the hour or half hour: $4 and about 35 mins later, you’ll be at your gate at LAX.
These buses really, really leave on time — so be there and ready to go with your cash ready for the driver. Yes, prices went up — It’s now $4, not $3.
Being a new service, the bus was brand new — with only 4 riders including me and the driver. However it made for a v. comfy ride.
There’s an odd funness about looking down at people in their cars. Many on the 405 had luggage in the back, so they were going to the airport too — except they were fighting traffic while I was taking in the sights.
If we all just took the Flyaway we’d all get there so much faster –

And we wouldn’t need so many parking lots….

And we’d all save money not taking cabs –

According to Metro trip planner, the trip takes 41 minutes — but we got there in 35 :) Now if we can get getting to the Flyaway as easy and reliable –

Thanks Siel, I’ll definitely be using this next time….cheaper, runs often and long hours, and near my place! Fuggin excellent!

The Flyaway is great. I’ve been using since it started going to Union Station. Its much easier than taking the red line, blue line, green line, and then the G shuttle bus. I even tell my out of town guests to use it, so I wouldn’t have to make a round trips to LAX.
The number of passengers seem low most times I’m on it, so I hope they continue operating.

This FlyAway also replaces a void left by the conversion of Metro line 561 to 761.
Line 561 used to run beyond Westwood to Fox Hills Mall and LAX. That leg never did well, but many 561/761 riders still resented the line being truncated in Westwood.

isn’t it great? i’ve taken it on all my trips since moving to highland park. gold line to union station to lax. it’s amazing how much less stressful it is to go to the airport when riding a bus that takes you. love the photos, btw.

Flyaway’s so cool that it makes me wanna wish I lived in Westwood — except that my goal’s to fly less overall, so perhaps it’s good that I don’t….

The Flyaway from Union Station works wonderfully too. The last time I used it, I came in at 6 p.m. on a weekday and expected to be stuck in rush hour traffic for a long time. But the bus has a dedicated lane for a while, I think, and then it merged onto an HOV lane, and I swear it, it was only about twenty-five minutes from pulling away from the curb to getting dropped off at Union Station. While tons of cars were stuck in traffic, I should add.

Once Wilshire gets a fully dedicated buslane throughout it should get a bit faster for the Flyaway too :) Of course it sounds like it’ll be quite a while before this happens though :(

I hope this runs as smoothly as you all say, I will be taking it for the first time today!

Have a safe ride! And seriously, get there on time — The bus leaves EXACTLY at the hour and half hour –
