A twice-weekly sharing of eco-shwag!
Today’s giveaway’s a cotton tote bag from Livingreen.
I heart Livingreen — an eco home furnishings spot with stores in Culver City and Santa Barbara. Walk in, and you’ll be surrounded by all manner of gorgeous, fair trade and eco-friendly stuff, from beds and mattresses to glassware and cheese cutters.
Unfortunately, Livingreen tote bags don’t seem to boast any eco or fair trade attributes. They’re regular cotton bags made in India. WTF?! I’m writing this in the wee night hours, so I can’t call, but will try to remember to –
Anyway — The reusable cotton tote bag’s still a gift that keeps on giving :) Lemme know if you want it via comment or email by Friday night. Drawing happens Saturday — US addresses only.

Sure, I’m in ;).

hi siel
in an earlier blognote you talked about the difficulties in finding a good - or rather non-toxic and sticky sun block cream.
FDA Proposes Sunscreen Regulations
Here is part of an email from the good people at EWG:
I’ve got some exciting news for you. Thanks in part to EWG’s work on our Sunscreen Database and your support, the Food and Drug Administration just proposed new sunscreen standards! After nearly 30 years of FDA procrastination, these standards could put a permanent safety standard in place for UVA protection.
But we need your help! We’ve been here before and seen FDA cave in to industry objections. FDA’s comment period is open right now. Tell FDA to finalize and implement their proposed standards ASAP. Here’s what you can do:
1. Go to the FDA’s comment page
2. Fill in your information and choose “Individual Consumer”
3. Click continue and write your comment — use the talking points below as a starting point
The more people FDA hears from, the better. Tell 5 friends about FDA’s proposal and ask them to comment, too!
Here’s what you should remember to include in your comment:
* I want FDA to finalize and implement these proposed sunscreen safety standards by next summer — I don’t want to wait another 30 years!
* I want to know the sunscreens I buy are safe and effective.
FDA’s proposed sunscreen safety regulations are a positive step forward, but we need to keep the pressure on FDA so you and your family can have confidence in your sunscreens next summer.
Join the fight for safe sunscreens and help us keep the pressure on FDA — leave your comment for FDA, then spread the word to 5 friends.
Thank you for your support and we’ll keep you updated!
Sincerely,
Jane Houlihan
Vice President for Research

aaron is the lucky winner! Sometimes I’m quite surprised at how many people still are in need of these tote bags, because I feel I keep getting too many thrown my way (for ex I didn’t take the Whole Foods ones that were being given out at Do It Green, but most other people did). There seems to be an unequal distribution of eco-bags, I guess :P
