>> Brad Pitt’s laying down $5 million for green homes in New Orleans. So’s producer Steve Bing. The two will lead the project to build 150 affordable eco-homes in New Orleans’ Lower 9th Ward.

Here he is speaking about Katrina (at the v. end of the clip) at the Clinton Global Initiative earlier this week: (via grist)

  1. Having been born and raised in the City of New Orleans, and having been personally effected by the devestation of the hurricane… i can still strongly say that building eco-homes in the lower 9th ward is the worst backwards idea i have read yet. To build eco-sustainable homes in an area that is swamp land quickly eroding, constantly flooding, and guaranteed to be destroyed over and over, seems like an oxy-moron to me. I understand the giving nature of his plan, and the beauty of doing it the right way(eco safe) - but this is the wrong place. Unless those houses can double as getaway boats, and resist the continued sinking of the land….
