Your turn to help me –
As you know, I don’t like weird chemicals in my hair, so I’ve gotten a bit weird about getting my hair cut — as in I haven’t gotten it cut in a really long time.
Actually, the real reason I haven’t gotten it cut in so long is that the last cut I got was horrifically mullet-like. No, I didn’t ask for it — and I’ve since vowed never to get my hair cut by anyone from Jersey (sorry, hairstylists from N.J. who might be reading this). Luckily, it’s since grown out — A LOT.
Unfortunately, green haircuts have proved a bit tougher to find than green facials. Greenopia ranks some of them — but the rankings seem to have mostly to do with the type of hair color used — irrelevant for me, since I don’t color my hair.
If I lived in Encino, I’d definitely go to Nori’s EcoSalon — but I’m actually not even quite sure where Encino is. I do know it’s rather far to go for just a haircut –
More close by, the greenest salon I’ve found is Veda, an Aveda concept salon in Santa Monica. However, while Aveda does a lot of green marketing, their stuff is really only semi-green. Plus a cut and style costs between $80 - $100 — not totally outrageous, but kinda pricy.
So my questions are two-fold:
1. Do you know of any hair salons that use eco-friendly hair products on the westside?
2. Assuming I get no positive answers to question 1: Should I get my hair cut at Veda, since it’s the greenest one I’ve found? Or do you have a different salon you go to that you’d recommend?
All hair advice is appreciated -

I don’t know about places to go in L.A. but:
The wonderful hairdresser from Hairdoo Voodoo in San Francisco uses Eufora products and swears that they are more eco-friendly than others.
I’d never heard of Eufora’s stuff, but they contain no plasticizers, for instance (although I’m not sure about the plastic bottling). A tiny dab of shampoo goes a long way because there’s no water in it; you add water and then it lathers nicely. The rose/passionfruit scent smelled so sweet it almost put me to sleep.

i think the greenest thing you can do is cut it yourself. haha. what makes a haircut green besides products used? maybe you can bring your own products? i’ve never been to a salon so i don’t know.

Green hair might be a symptom of a serious ailment. Maybe you should see a doctor rather than a hair dresser. Perhaps you’ve been having too many green drinks. Just a thought.

Go to refuge hair salon in Silver Lake. All vegan products and the hair stylists are super-friendly. About $50 for a wash/style/blow. Can’t really beat that!

You can either cut it yourself - a little intimidating at first, but really no that big of a deal.
Or just have them cut it without using any of their products. Go in with your hair already washed, and ask them not to use product on your hair. All they’ll use is scissors right?

Have you considered just calling a salon near you and telling them your concerns? I am sure they would allow you to bring your own organic products. In addition, ask them not to put any product in your hair when they blow out your hair.
They don’t even have to blow out your hair if you don’t want. Many times, I walk right from a cut because I just don’t have the time. I just towel dry it a little and off I go.
As for NJ, they have a new eco-salon that I go to for safer hair coloring (Salon Botanique)http://www.salonbotaniqueecochic.com/
