Have you considered just calling a salon near you and telling them your concerns? I am sure they would allow you to bring your own organic products. In addition, ask them not to put any product in your hair when they blow out your hair.

They don't even have to blow out your hair if you don't want. Many times, I walk right from a cut because I just don't have the time. I just towel dry it a little and off I go.

As for NJ, they have a new eco-salon that I go to for safer hair coloring (Salon Botanique)http://www.salonbotaniqueecochic.com/

You can either cut it yourself - a little intimidating at first, but really no that big of a deal.
Or just have them cut it without using any of their products. Go in with your hair already washed, and ask them not to use product on your hair. All they'll use is scissors right?

Go to refuge hair salon in Silver Lake. All vegan products and the hair stylists are super-friendly. About $50 for a wash/style/blow. Can't really beat that!

Green hair might be a symptom of a serious ailment. Maybe you should see a doctor rather than a hair dresser. Perhaps you've been having too many green drinks. Just a thought.

i think the greenest thing you can do is cut it yourself. haha. what makes a haircut green besides products used? maybe you can bring your own products? i've never been to a salon so i don't know.

I don't know about places to go in L.A. but:

The wonderful hairdresser from Hairdoo Voodoo in San Francisco uses Eufora products and swears that they are more eco-friendly than others.

I'd never heard of Eufora's stuff, but they contain no plasticizers, for instance (although I'm not sure about the plastic bottling). A tiny dab of shampoo goes a long way because there's no water in it; you add water and then it lathers nicely. The rose/passionfruit scent smelled so sweet it almost put me to sleep.
