Tuesday questions: See you at BlogHer?

Posted by Siel in travel, questions, nocal (June 10, 2008 at 9:55 am)

Your turn to help me –

Are you going to the BlogHer conference this year? It’s happening July 18 - 20, 2008, in case you’re just learning about it here and want to sign up. Last year the conference took me all the way to Chicago; this year, it’s just upstate in NoCal.

Green, Social Change & NPOs/NGOsI’ll be driving up — as that’s greener than flying. If you’re also going, lemme know — Maybe we can carpool! My current plan’s to stay at a private room in the SF downtown hostel –

I haven’t decided what panels to go to yet, but I’ll definitely be at the Blogging Birds of a Feather Meet-Up for Green/Social Change, happening from 10:30-11:10 am on Friday, July 18. Join the table and say hello –

Update: So GM’s a big sponsor — and let BlogHer attendees carpool up in Chevy hybrids. Free rental, free tank of gas gas, free parking — in a huge car. It took 2/3 of a tank to get up to San Francisco. It cost us $100 to drive back.

Update: BlogHer has a recycling room for unwanted swag this year.

I’d love to be going, but will be in India and blogging from there when I get the chance.

I like your blog. I hope you you might take an interest in mine ;-).

I’m not sure that I buy the driving greener than flying thing. Certainly, it seems very likely that a solo drive is going to be much less green than flying in a packed plane. I’d buy taking the train or the bus as being greener, but driving, not so much.

stay in the hostel in fort mason if you can.
you’d have a much nicer (with views) experience.

    downtown hostels=tenderloin=I’d think about it.

  4. Emily Says:

I recommend the Adelaide Hostel downtown (yes, Tenderloin, but perfectly safe) - the private rooms are especially nice!

  5. Beth Terry Says:

Oh yay! I can’t wait to meet you, Siel. I’ll be at Blogging Birds of a Feather Meet-Up for Green/Social Change too, and am trying to get Green Bean to come too.

So, this doesn’t answer your question. Just glad you’re coming.

    Beth

  6. Mary Says:

I’m driving up, but stopping half way up to research strawbale homes in San Luis Obispo. I will be returning in one drive, however. You are welcome to join me on both or either legs.

  7. Siel Says:

Don — It’s best to rely on scientific research when looking at emissions, as opposed to just going by what you personally think is “likely” –

I’ve booked a few nights at a private room at the hostel downtown — so unless a better option comes along, that’s where I shall be :)

Looking forward to meeting you too, Beth!

Mary — We’re now setting up car trips via BlogHer — and may in fact get a free ride in a hybrid via GM, of all people. If you for some reason decide to skip the straw bale research thing, you’re welcome to join us — Let me know!
