“The ear on which I lie stamps itself mathematically on my brain.” After reading Fernando Pessoa’s The Book of Disquiet, I’ll never sleep on my side the same way again.
I found this book via the list of top 10 books of boredom. Reading great books about boredom is the most intense and exciting boredom –
My soul is a hidden orchestra; I know not what instruments, what fiddlestrings and harps, drums and tambours I sound and clash inside myself. All I hear is the symphony.
Drinking less has meant contending with my sense of boredom more.
I reject dreams as being a vulgar form of escape. Yet I live the most sordid and ordinary of real lives and the most intense and constant of dream lives.
Of the list of 10, I’ve borrowed 4, bought 4, and put 2 on my wish list. My birthday’s All Saint’s Day.
