Subway to the Sea meetings start tomorrow!

Posted by Siel in bus/rail, de-car-ing, losangeles (Tuesday September 2, 2008 at 7:01 pm)

Find out where the Subway to the Sea’s gonna run! The next Westside Extension Community Update Meetings — which’ll “present to the public the refined set of alternatives that will be recommended for further study and a schedule for future steps” — start tomorrow. I’ll be there — Join me!

Update: Metro’s actually going to unveil plans for TWO lines in this round of meetings (see map above), one going down Wilshire and the other going down Santa Monica before dipping down to join the Wilshire line.

Of course, we don’t know how we’re gonna pay for said subway yet — But we’re a step closer to a half cent sales tax raise in LA County to help fund the Subway to the Sea. So far, AB 2321, the bill that would put the tax issue on the Nov. ballot, has cleared the Cali Assembly. What happens now: Schwarzenegger needs to sign the bill within 30 days, then Angelenos will vote on it in Nov.

Update: Metro’s put together a “Measure R & Metro’s Five Point Plan” about this half cent sales tax dealio. (via LAist)

Somewhat relatedly: Metro’s put together a new transit map (PDF) that lets you better see how the major bus and rail lines connect.

And some v. good transit news: Metrolink’s now on Google Transit! Unfortunately, Metro’s still trying to work things out with Google. (via LAist) Earlier: Google Transit.

Update, 9/3/08: I liveblogged the latest Subway to the Sea meeting!
