My name’s in the Sacramento Bee! Actually, my last name’s spelled incorrectly, but whatever — It shows my support for universal health care in California.
Why my name shows up: I support Senate Bill 840, Senator Kuehl’s California Universal Health Care Act — which proposes full, universal healthcare for ALL Californians, replacing the thousands of health plans out there with one nonprofit healthcare plan. SB 840’s now made it through the California legislature and is in front of Schwarzenegger’s desk.
Unfortunately, the Governator’s vetoed this bill before — which is why SB840 advocate group OneCareNow raised money to run an ad in the Sacramento Bee that’ll hopefully convince Schwarzenegger to sign the bill into law. I donated a lil money to run the ad!
Health care’s an issue that’s causing a lot of personal stress for me right now. Since I’m done with school, my awesome student insurance through USC came to an end. And so far, both Blue Cross and Pacificare have declined to insure me! I’m still looking into other insurance plans — but in the meantime, I’m paying for the “GAP” insurance that extends the USC plan — at the cost of $400 a month.
So I called Schwarzenegger’s office (916.445.2841) today. After navigating a brief automated phone maze and waiting on hold for 5 mins, I got through to a staff member who said she’d pass my message — Please sign SB 840 — on to Schwarzenegger.
I hope you’ll call Schwarzenegger too! You can also email or fax the governor, donate money to OneCareNow, and urge others to get involved. Help me and all other Californians get health care!

I guess it’s no surprise that this has not made the national news. I live in Illinois and sincerely hope the Gov doesn’t veto this. It would be a great example for the rest of the country.

Who do you expect will pay for your healthcare after the state takes over?

Ron — That’d be taxpayers — like me. I pay in — and I wanna get something out.
