5 ways to green the pumpkin

I shoulda written ’bout this earlier, but here it is now: 5 ways to green your pumpkin for the Halloween season :)

1. Buy local and organic. Why local? Local produce will both taste better AND save energy wasted on unnecessary travel miles. Why organic? Organic means fewer pesticides, both for you and the people who helped grow the pumpkin :)

2. Eat the pumpkin! Pumpkin innards are good for soups, pies, or even curries! For pumpkin recipes, check out Lifehacker’s 30 ways to eat a pumpkin. I mean, these pumpkins are really good for you!

3. Make use of those seeds! If yer carving the thing, at least save the seeds and bake ‘em! People luv pumpkin seeds — as do birdies, if your party guests don’t nibble all of ‘em (via StopGlobalWarming).

4. Forego the carving. If all that carving’s too much work for ya, just decorate with uncarved pumpkins, then cook them after Halloween! (via Greenlight Magazine)

5. Be kind to the pumpkin carcass. If possible, bury or compost the thing! (via Greenlight Magazine)
