If the Fair Trade Festival‘s happening too far east for your style, then get to the green fest happening on the west side: The 2008 Abbot Kinney Festival. The organizers say the event’s gonna be “eco-chic with a gourmet green food court curated by CJ of “Top Chef,” sustainable art workshops, test drives of alternative-fuel vehicles, and a wide range of environmentally friendly fun.”
When: Sunday, Sept. 28, 2008, 10 am – 6:30 pm
Where: Abbot Kinney Blvd. between Venice Blvd. and Main St., Venice
Cost: Free
The green area, dubbed CONNECTED, will be at Milwood Ave and hosting events all day. The schedule, as of now:
>> 11 am: Terrarium workshops begin (last class at 4 pm)
>> Noon: Abbot Kinney History Tour with Artist J. Michael Walker
>> 2 pm: Fallen Fruit Tour
And the festival itself’ll have its usual arts, crafts, and shopping booths, as well as live music, a beer garden, and a family courtyard.
Hopefully I’ll catch more of it than I did last year. What would really help make the event green — and in general, prove helpful to the Venice community — is bike valet service. Last year, bikes seemed to be tied up against every object imaginable — and the bike community’s grown a lot this year!
