about green LA girl

Siel JuI’m Siel, an environmental writer and activist, and you’re reading green LA girl, my personal blog about eco-friendly, sustainable living in Los Angeles.

I wrote the first green LA girl post in July 2005 when I was a grad student living in west L.A. Now, I have a Ph.D. in Literature and Creative Writing from the University of Southern California and live in Santa Monica, Calif.

A Scorpio with a wishlist, I also write poems and ride my pink Townie bicycle to the beach almost every day.

What I do

I write and speak about environmental and fair trade issues. I’m a contributing editor at BlogHer.com and lifestyle blogger for mnn.com. I’ve been interviewed and recognized as an environmental lifestyle expert on NPR’s Weekend Edition, SELF, GOOD, Sacramento News & Review, SFGate, KoreAm, and many other publications.

Previously, I headed up LATimes.com’s environmental blog, Emerald City, served as editor for the L.A. section of WorldChanging, and wrote the Green News is Good News blog for Lime.com (since bought by Gaiam).

To find out more about what I’ve been writing or doing outside this blog, visit my CV-esque page or check out miscellaneous posts about what I’ve been up to.
