Bicycle Street Skills Class in Santa Monica 10/26 and 11/1

Posted by Siel in bicycle,de-car-ing,santamonica (Saturday October 11, 2008 at 3:10 pm)

So not only did I not make it to the on-the-road session of the bike safety class I signed up for on Aug. 3, I also didn’t make it to what woulda been the makeup session for me on Aug. 16 — because it was all the way in Culver City at the crack of dawn.

Luckily for me, another set of bicycle street skills classes are happening in Santa Monica — and I’m determined to make it to the on-the-road session (day 2) this time — despite the fact that it falls on my birthday.

The deets: Day 1 includes a “comprehensive presentation on the principles of bike safety, helmet fit, and basic bicycle maintenance”; Day 2 is a hands-on session (bike and helmet required) that lets participants “develop bike-handling skills and learn essential evasive maneuvers on a vacant paved area.”

When: Day 1 is Sun., October 26, 10 am – 3pm; Day 2 is Sat., Nov. 1, 9 am – 3 pm
Where: Community Corp., 502 Colorado Ave., Santa Monica.
Cost: Day 1: $20, or $15 for LA County Bicycle Coalition members. Day 2: $30, or $25 for LACBC members

To register, call Ron Durgin at 424.288.1747 or email rdurgin@gmail.com to reserve your spot.

  1. Hi Siel, thanks for posting – as a fellow Santa Monica bike rider, I appreciate the info – though Day 1 falls on my birthday, so I can’t make it! Maybe next time….
