Another reason why I wish I could speak Spanish: LA County Bicycle Coalition’s launching a City of Lights program to give bike lights to new(ish) Angelenos. From the Facebook invite:
City of Lights will be a fun way for us to increase immigrant bicyclists’ safety, since many ride without lights, and may be unaware of traffic laws. We want to reach out to and empower them to educate and spread bicycle safety information to their friends and families, as well as gather data on what conditions they ride in and to further their inclusion in the greater bicycle community.
Volunteers, especially those with Spanish speaking skills, are wanted to give out lights and promote bike safety at a number of different events in low-income Los Angeles ‘hoods. Get to the training session:
When: LACBC office, 634 S. Spring St. 8th fl., Los Angeles
Where: Friday, Jan. 30, 6 pm
And for all who asked: Yes, I did finally get a rear bike light, though I still sometimes forget to turn it on — and occasionally, off….
