Biodiesel Holiday Shuttle in Santa Monica

Posted by Siel in bus/rail,de-car-ing,environment,losangeles,santamonica (Thursday November 23, 2006 at 8:36 am)

Santa Monica’s helping you to shop green — or at least to not deal with parking hassles.

Starting tomorrow, 4 Big Blue Buses are becoming Holiday Shoppers’ Shuttles. They’re gonna get decorated like holiday packages, and will transport shoppers to popular shopping destinations in Santa Monica.

And they’re gonna run on biodiesel!

Hours: noon to 8 pm weekdays, and noon to 10 pm on weekends.
Cost: 50 cents a trip.
Frequency: Every 15 mins.
Route: 28 stops along Main Street from Marine Avenue to Wilshire Boulevard, and Ocean Avenue from Marine Avenue to Broadway. (route map here)

The shuttles will operate for a month, until Xmas eve — But Dan Dawson, Big Blue Bus customer relations manager, says if they receive a positive response to the Shoppers’ Shuttle during the holidays, they might make it a permanent service.

Update, 12/5/06: Farmers Market Shuttles — also on biodiesel — are running this holiday season! Route maps here.
