The eco laptop bag that’s been making the news comes with its own laptop. HP’s replaced the usual, wasteful computer packaging — those big cardboard boxes and styroam molds — by simply putting its Pavilion dv6929 laptop into a cute reusable laptop bag — made with 100% recycled fabric to boot!
But as you can see by the fact that I’ve written this post, my current Dell laptop’s working just fine. Chances are, yours is too –
Want a new eco laptob bag for your existing laptop? Check out the selection at Act2 GreenSmart. This “Bottles to bags” eco-line from Shoreline is made entirely of recycled PET plastic (aka recycled water and soda bottles).
Yes — The outside fabric, inside lining, bag strap, and even the zippers are all made from recycled materials. Even the shipping labels and sales tags are printed on recycled paper with veggie inks.
As for style and function: The bags come in attractive, go-with-everything colors — GeekSugar says the blue’s her favorite — in all sorts of configurations — from laptop sleeves to jackets to vertical messenger bags — and judging by the samples I got to try out, look like they’ll last a long time too. Prices range from just $24.99 for a laptop jacket to $69.99 for the messenger bags.
While the Act2 GreenSmart line probably offers the widest selection of eco-laptop bags, many bottles-to-bags are on the market now, to fit all your toting needs:
- Great Green Goods brought this cute “The Penguin and the Rooster” recycled plastic laptop bag to my attention, yours for $48 at Uncommon Goods.
- Yogis can pick up a Mesh Yoga Mat Bag made of recycled plastic at Gaiam for $20.
- For parents, there’s the Recycled Bottle Micro Pod Diaper Bag — complete with a pass-thru badge for iPod earbuds and a zip-out mesh pocket for Sippy cups — at gigglefish for $28.
- Business people can get their own logo on recycled plastic bags and other corporate shwag type items at Proforma Green.
I haven’t tried those items out myself as I have the Act2 GreenSmart bags, however. Anyone own these other recycled plastic bags? Share your knowledge and reviews in the comments.
