Bread & Porridge has neither organic nor fair trade coffee, though you can pick from a small or large French press. But Lag2 mentioned free wifi, so I dropped in and just had a slighly limp grilled salmon salad in the dining section.
Perhaps their breakfast fare’s better — Despite my mediocre meal experience, the place is clearly popular with the Santa Monica lunch crowd. All tables are filled, and there’s even a small wait going. The waiters are sweet.
Now, I’ve moved to the cafe section of Bread & Porridge, which has wifi, a bunch of comfy couches, but no tables. The cafe menu seems rather bare — a basic coffee menu plus orange juice, iced tea, and lemonade.
What I’m curious about — The restaurant menu offers wine. Can I order wine in the cafe? I’m a little afraid to ask, partly because wine’s clearly not listed on the cafe menu, partly because everyone’s drinking coffee and not wine at 12:55 pm on Friday, and partly because I’m trying not to start any new bad habits.
I have, however, just noticed that an unsecured wifi connection’s showing up for O’Brien’s — the Irish bar across the street. I’m tempted to walk over and drink and blog for the rest of the afternoon –
Not sure I’ll be back at Bread & Porridge, due to complete lack of organic options, but I may hang out for a few hours today –

Nope. Bread and Porridge has always been just OK.

I’ve had good breakfasts there–particularly the sausage. I have learned, though, that it’s best to make reservations on weekends, even for brunch. Especially for brunch on, say, Father’s Day.

But I don’t eat sausage…. Maybe it’s a better option for meat eaters who aren’t all that picky ’bout where their meat comes from. I can definitely see the place getting busy on the weekends –

Well, we’re not all at the same stage at the same time. Sausage isn’t the only thing on the menu–but then it’s already been established that the food isn’t organic anyhow.
