If you’re a Santa Monica resident eager to see the Expo Light Rail finally make its way into your ‘hood — or a more inland resident eager to take the Expo rail to the beach — get ready for a busy week ahead. The City of Santa Monica’s having its informational meeting on Tuesday, and Metro’s having its own meetings starting Wednesday.

Let’s start with the city meeting. Judging from the city email I got, the city forces are strongly behind the project: “The light rail line will increase mobility in our community, and support the community’s Land Use and Circulation Element (LUCE).” The meeting, put together by the city’s Planning and Community Development Department, promises to unveil more details on the project — with a focus on segments in Santa Monica:
When: Tues., Feb. 17, 7 pm – 9 pm
Where: Civic Center Auditorium’s East Wing, 1885 Main St.
You don’t need to RSVP for that meeting — or for the following Metro Exposition Construction Authority public hearings. According to Metro’s event notices, these events’ll have no formal presentation about the Expo line beyond some informational boards — but people will be able to put in their two cents about what they think about the project.
You can pick from one of 3 hearings, the first of which is happening in Santa Monica:
* Wed., Feb. 18, 5 pm – 8 pm, Santa Monica High School cafeteria, 601 Pico Blvd., Santa Monica
* Mon., Feb. 23, 5 pm – 8 pm, Vista Del Mar Child and Family Services gymnasium, 3200 Motor Ave., Los Angeles
* Wed., Feb. 25, 5 pm – 8 pm, Webster Middle School, 11330 W. Graham Pl., Los Angeles
Before the meetings, check out the route alternatives under consideration (above) — and the details of the draft Environmental Impact Report. If you can’t make it to the meetings, get your comments in by Fri., March 13 to phase2@exporail.net.
