A Joshua Tree National Park with no Joshua Trees, redwood forests with no new redwoods. Those are scary thoughts for treehuggers — thoughts that KQED examines at length in California at the Tipping Point, a 22-minute program that aired earlier this week.
The program’s not just guessing at a dire future. This show covers changes that are already happening in California, from our shrinking water reservoirs due to mountains getting more rain and less snow, to severe and earlier forest fires, to localized species extinction happening in some areas, to the potential for flooding in the Bay area.
California at the Tipping Point ends by emphasizing that our actions now will create a future that’s either inconvenient or catastrophic. Watch the show — then get involved!

I think the only way to prevent this is to encourage people to be more vocal. It’s great to make green choices on your own. But you have to encourage others to do the same.
