Two lucky green LA girl readers will each win a pair of tickets to the first weekend of EarthFlow’s 10th Permaculture Design Certificate Course in Los Angeles!

The full course meets the first weekend of every month from October 2010 to March 2011. Wednesday freebies: 5 reusable bags from BlogHer ’10

Posted by Siel in freebies (Wednesday August 18, 2010 at 9:12 am)

Twice-weekly green giveaways.

reusable bags I got at BlogHer 10

Want the plastic bag ban to go into effect in California? Today’s giveaway will get you ready for the ban — if you aren’t already. One winner will get a 5-pack of reusable bags in shapes and sizes to meet every purpose.

I got all five of these bags while at BlogHer ’10 — which makes me worry that companies are giving out way more reusable bags than are actually getting used. I certainly don’t need any bags — so I’m hoping one of you do!

The biggest is gigantic White House / Black Market tote made of recycled plastic bottles; the scratchiest is the BlogHer ’10 bag, a Freeset tote that’s fairly made out of jute. The rest of the collection isn’t as green, but include a regular-sized tote, a canvas tote with a zipper, and a tiny bag for tiny totables

Because some of the bags are too big, this freebie drawing will be limited to readers in the L.A.-area who can pick up the 5-pack. Comment by Tues., Aug. 23 to get into the drawing, which’ll happen Wed., Aug. 24 (more info on freebies here). And please heed the bag rule.

Nalgene Tritan bottles

Love light Nalgene bottles — but hate that those screw-top lids require two hands to open? Today’s giveaway will solve that reusable bottle conundrum for one green LA girl reader and a friend. Enter to win a pair of “On The Go” Tritan FilterForGood Nalgene bottles.

These 24-ounce, BPA-free reusable bottles have a fliptop lid you can open with one hand. The downside: The Tritan will leak if held upside down — so carry it right side up.

Wednesday freebies: 3 reusable Bloomingdale’s bags

Posted by Siel in freebies (Wednesday August 4, 2010 at 7:15 am)

Twice-weekly green giveaways.

Reusable Brown Bag from Bloomingdale's

Today’s freebie is for the Santa Monica shopper who’s eager to check out the new Bloomingdale’s at the revamped Santa Monica Place mall — with reusable bags in hand, of course. One lucky winner will get not one, not two, but three reusable Bloomingdale’s bags — plus a gift certificate for a free Forty Carrots frozen yogurt at Bloomingdale’s. Redeem that gift certificate, and Bloomingdale’s Santa Monica will send $5 to local eco-nonprofit Heal the Bay!

reusable Bloomingdale's bags

All three bags were given to me at the media preview for Bloomingdale’s Santa Monica this morning. The biggest is a roomy, sturdier tote complete with a zipper that could be used as a weekend bag for a light shopper. A light cotton tote and an orange mesh bag will fit smaller items — like oranges from the nearby farmers market on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Bloomingdale's Santa Monica

Does this mean the new Bloomingdale’s a green store? No — though the 101,000-square-foot, two-story store did make some greening efforts. (more…)
