- Grenada Chocolate Co.: A small, organic chocolate company with great ideals that recently went from co-op to company structure. Not fair trade certified, but still worth supporting — and enjoying the award-winning chocolate. Nearest retail location’s in San Francisco, but you can order online.
- Olympics with child labor. 4 Chinese factories licensed to manufacture goods for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing are violating basic labor standards. A reason to get your sports gear from Fair Trade Sports instead. On the upside, sort of, Beijing announced the creation of new “energy-saving police.”
- The next Kombucha Kamp happens this Sunday, June 17, at 3 pm in Culver City. Email kombuchakamp@gmail.com to get in on this $15 class that’ll supply you with a lifetime of yummy kombucha. I took it, and am currently enjoying Acai-flavored kombucha.
- Organic beef industry’s growing — and facing feed shortages. Demand for organic feed’s growing by about 20% each year, while US production of organic row crops is growing only by about 4%. So some organic farmers are resorting to importing feed from as far away as China.

What is it with the Bay Area and all the delicious chocolate? Maybe because it pairs so well with a Napa Valley cabernet. I’m feeling deprived….
No, I’m just feeling hungry.

Hadn’t thought ’bout the Bay Area-Choco connection before, but you’re right! We need an LA-based choco movement –
