>> One more local shopping event: BUST Magazine’s Holiday Craftacular, “a massive holiday shopping bonanza” with “hundreds of the best in handmade gifts and winter wares, from handbags and ornaments to jewelry and cards” from 50+ crafters. Plus, there’ll be DJs, drinks, and dancing. It all happens Sat., Dec. 6, from 11 am to 6 pm at the Echoplex, 1154 Glendale Blvd., in Los Angeles. (via Caroline on Crack) Earlier: 4 Big local shopping events in L.A.

>> The short, disgusting life of the Hummer. Who knew Schwarzenegger had such a strong hand in the gas guzzler’s rise — and fall! Read the Salon article for details on all the Hummer love — followed by much Hummer hate.

>> Whatever happened to the hydrogen economy, which Schwarzenegger’s still fully behind? Not much, according to a long, informative article in NewScientist. One reason why: “The energy losses in the fuel chain – from electrolysis to compression of the hydrogen for use to inefficiencies in the fuel cell itself – mean that only 24 per cent of the energy used to make the fuel does any useful work on the road. By contrast, battery-powered electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids, with no electrolysis or compression to worry about, use 69 per cent of the original energy.”
