- Buzz got so big around the new “I’m not a plastic bag” tote that Fred Segal stores in LA had long long lines waiting to buy the $15 bags. This despite the bag — which I mentioned here — has been outed as being made in China and neither organic nor fair trade.
- First-borns have higher IQs! Yay! However, “studies have shown that second- and third-born children often have better health than first-born kids.” Genius is painful. (via 3qd)
- David Byrne on biking: “There’s a feeling of freedom that comes with cycling in a big city which is very important, as one can feel trapped by the routine of touring, work, or even travel. Trapped in a neighborhood of hotels and offices, or a neighborhood of tourist attractions, one can escape — quickly and instantly — and ride along the levees in New Orleans (pre-Katrina) or through the back streets of Grenada.” (via clusterflock)
- But Talking Heads didn’t make Grist’s list of 15 green musicians and bands….

I’d have to read the actual study and not the media coverage, but that IQ study seems a bit suspect to me, particularly since IQ is a very non-linear function (it’s a lot harder to go from 123 to 126 than it is to go from 100 to 103). In any event, I’m a lastborn and have a higher IQ than my older sibs as well as worse health. But I’ve always been a contrarian.
