>> The EPA finally officially said that greenhouse gases pose a danger to public health and welfare. According to Grist, EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson said this announcement will “trigger the beginnings of regulation of CO2 for this country.
>> Villaraigosa picked S. David Freeman as L.A.’s new environment deputy. David (right, between Summer and me), whom I met at the launch party for his book, Wining Our Energy Independence, will focus on clean air and water conservation issues.
>> Water and energy issues are very connected, says Amy Hardberger, attorney with Environmental Defense Fund:
Almost 20 percent of all the electricity used in [California] was used to supply and treat water. On average, 75 percent of the costs of producing municipal water are electricity costs related to capturing, treating, distributing, and using water. After the water is used, more energy is required to treat the wastewater.
Understanding this relationship highlights the importance of conserving water and practicing energy efficiency. For every kilowatt saved, water is also saved. For every gallon of water not used, energy demand is reduced.
Earlier:
>> Southern California water agency to cut supplies by 10%
>> L.A. goes through 207 billion gallons of water a year — and only 12% of that’s local water.

S. David Freeman is awesome. His talk was phenomenal the night of that pic… and remember they gave everybody shots of Jack Daniels and shot glasses that said “Winning our Energy Independence”. Clever.

I have reworked my laundry routinetso facilitate reuse of at least some of the gray water (my kids are obsessed in wearing black, so it really is gray water).

How’d you achieve the gray water reuse? Do you wash by hand, or did you rig the washing machine?
