Santa Monica’s getting 11 60-foot, articulated buses — that would be the big buses with that accordion-like bendy thing in the middle — for Big Blue Bus’ rapid lines.  The buses — 3 of which were bought with the federal government’s economic stimulus funds — will run on CNG.

>> Continued clashes between renewable energy and wildlife preservation. “The development of solar-power facilities in the desert has been a top priority of the Obama administration…. But the presence of sensitive habitat, rare plants and imperiled creatures such as desert tortoises, bighorn sheep and flat-tailed horned lizards threatens to stall or derail some of the projects closest to securing permits.” Earlier: Cali’s renewable energy initiative meets eco-hurdles.

>> GreenGov Challenge for government employees: Obama invites federal and military personnel to submit clean energy ideas and suggestions to help green up the agency they’re in. The best ideas will be presented to the Steering Committee on Federal Sustainability in November.
