(Similarly, dimming the screen on your laptop will also increase battery life quite a bit) Another thing I do is make sure the flash is off. But that's more because I hate how flash ruins most photos. But that's my artistic sensibility, not environmental! Still, try taking shots without the flash, and see how it works!
