- Tony Blair to meet to talk about the Ethiopian coffee trademark issue with Tadesse Meskela, the Ethiopian coffee co-op guy featured in Black Gold. - LA fishies still have lots of DDT :( Another reason for me to curb my sushi habit.

I was disappointed to hear about the new DDT report, but not surprised. This is the major reason they’re having so much trouble establishing a successful breeding colony of Bald Eagles on Catalina. The eagles do fine on all the other Channel Islands except for Catalina because of that huge reservoir of DDT that extends from Long Beach/San Pedro out into the channel.

What about going vegetarian on the sushi? There are probably all kinds of pickling and vinaigrette’s one could easily soak slivers of veggies in, to make a great assortment. I wonder about the usual seaweed wrappings though: Are they ecologically obtained?

I’m not sure about the eco-status of nori! Might be a good question for Umbra at Grist –
