River in 3 days to demonstrate that the waterbody should be considered “traditionally navigable water” and thus entitled to the highest standards of federal protections under the Clean Water Act. Check out a slideshow of the kayaking trip!

>> Impetus for the kayaking trip: In June, the Army Corps of Engineers said only about 4 miles of the river could be considered “traditionally navigable water.”

>> One of the kayakers, Joe Linton (photo right), and Jessica Hall have started a blog called L.A. Creek Freak, dedicated to LA waterways.

>> In other watery news: Governor Schwarzenegger and Cali’s US senator DiFi want you to help put a water bond package on the Nov. ballot. “Our proposal includes modernization of our aging water systems, significant investment in healing and safeguarding the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta and other important ecosystems, increased water storage in reservoirs and underground aquifers, improved conveyance and a strong focus on conservation programs.”
