A new San Francisco based company’s combining world music with fair trade practices via an “Equal Exchange/Fair Trade model in which independent artists get at least 50% of all retail sales.” Now, Adina’s brought new coffee energy drinks — a.k.a. Adina Natural Highs — for fair trade music fans to drink while dancing. Made with fair trade, organic coffee beans, the drinks are available at Whole Foods and other stores.

>> Divine Chocolate’s got Halloween chocolates this year! Get 21 ozs of Milk Chocolate Divine wrapped in Halloween foils for $15 — or purchase tubs of 200 Dark Chocolate mini bars for $35.

>> Eating local despite a missed farmers’ market. Luckily, I live just a few blocks from Co-opportunity, which gave me the ingredients for my local Tunisian potato salad with a side of garlic rainbow chard.

>> Wishing I was a CSA member. I looked at Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program members from across the nation — and found they were saving lotsa money while eating yummy local, organic food. Unfortunately, Tierra Miguel’s the only option, pretty much, for the LA area — and it doesn’t deliver to a place where I could pick it up on foot (can’t balance a whole box o’ produce on my bike).

  1. I have two options in my area of Southern Orange county. I use http://www.southcoastfarms.com as I’ve been a very happy subscriber the last 2 years. Each quarter is $235 for a basket every other week full of fresh delicious fruits and veggies. I have always been very satisfied with the quality of the produce.
Another option I have is http://www.morningsongfarm.com. Due to being so happy with my current one haven’t seen a real need to investigate them much.

  2. siel: i’ve seen bikers with a few bags hanging off of the handlebars; is this something you could do? i always transfer my tierra miguel box into a couple of cotton bags (2 amoeba bags is about right) before leaving the pickup site and heading onto the bus so as to avoid the unwieldy box…

  4. David and Michael — Thanks for the info! I’ll put together a roundup of CSAs in the area soon –

mb — Good point! Bike Girl emailed to suggest something similar. Now I just need to figure out if the closest drop off site for Tierra Miguel is in biking distance for me (I’m kinda wimpy).
