- The top banana at Oke Banana, a fair trade fruit company, wants to “require all national politicians to take a dose of Sodium Pentothal before all public appearances, to enhance their truthfulness. One immediate result would be the dramatic engagement of the government in reversing our death march into the impending global climate holocaust.”

could be coming soon, courtesy of global warming.
Actually one of the main causes of the 100 years war between France and England in the middle ages was the rivally between the english and french wine growers. Now their is very little english wine growers as the article points out.
Who is to say the increasing wine growth in England is due to gobal warming perphaps it is due to a re-alignment of the enviroment to 13th century climate?

about moving to sweden:
you may be reluctant to move in the area that is depicted in the story, mainly because of the huge price tags. this was the main criticism of that area at the time it was built. no normal middle class families could afford to move in there even if some of the houses are reasonably energy efficient. but the more expensive ones also had huge windows facing the harbour, not so energy efficient after all. btw not many think that malmö (ca 250k ppl) has any inherent charm, the upside is its proximity to the university towns Lund (5 min commuting) and Copenhagen ca 20 minutes by train over the bridge…
although the really energy efficient houses in sweden are easily counted (none in that area in malmö).
there is a EC regulation starting from jan-07 stating that new houses (planning starting 07) must make public estimates of the energy consumption for each apartment etc. maybe this will speed up things a bit…

Okay European dudes — Clearly, you know a lot more ’bout what’s going on over there than I do from reading these MSM articles. Sadly, the only European country I’ve been to is France. Actually, I was in a German airport for a layover once –

Well I never been in France either. ( I am just moved to England and moving to Paris in 2 years for my phd).
I have lived in Barcelona though. Sorry that is off-topic.
You know alot more about here then most americans. I know friends of mine who have been asked by Americans do we have electricty, washing machines and photocopiers (maybe you call them zerox machines).
Sure if you ever want to pop over to Europe. Feel free to get in contact.
By the way I have started buying Fair trade tea. I was in the supermarket and there you were on my shoulder going “buy the fair trade tea” and the capitalist on my other shoulder went “It is subsidiesing unsustainable economic developement”
Eventually my taste buds went the “English tea is probably shite listen to siel”. So now I have fair trade tea.
