Clicklist: Green shopping (and beware of hype)

>> Cute eco-calendars for 2008 printed on recycled paper with soy-based inks. But do people still use paper wall calendars? (image from Blissen)

>> Ecobutterfly: A knitting web store for environmentalists. Organic cotton yarn, bamboo knitting needles — and even bamboo purse handles! I hope the yarn selection expands to include bamboo and eco-wool too –

>> Reusable shopping bags — now made with upholstery fabric. Joslyn of JP Monkey tells me her bags’re made from remnant upholstery grade textiles and last longer than many canvas bags. I haven’t had a canvas bag give out on me yet, but some of the bags’re pretty cute. (image from JP Monkey)

>> Think before believing the green hype of greenwashers “In the current zeitgeist, green companies that do what they’re supposed to do—save money, raise profits—can earn valuable free air time that doubles as an objective third-party endorsement.” A rather bitter article, but one that serves as a reminder to evaluate a company’s green claims before buying in.
