>> L.A. Councilmembers try to make cabs hail-able (above) by kicking off “Taxicab Appreciation Week,” offering cabbies free meals in an effort to get them to cruise around and pick up passengers. Why don’t cabbies already do this? Until July 31 this year, taxis weren’t allowed to pick up passengers who weren’t waiting at a taxi stand.
>> L.A. transit takers finally get transit cards that’ll let them pay for their rides more easily. However, these TAP cards oddly won’t be available to buy at any subway station except Union Station — though you can buy them at a number of liquor stores…. Update: TAP cards get officially unveiled.
>> L.A.’s major newspaper’s sinking. “Media giant Tribune Co. — owner of the Los Angeles Times, KTLA-TV Channel 5 and other newspapers and TV stations — filed Monday for bankruptcy protection from creditors.”
>> Burbank airport’s getting a solar-powered hangar. “A team of Southern California developers today is taking the wraps off what may be the world’s greenest aviation facility, one capable of powering a Boeing 757 with solar energy while the aircraft is on the ground for maintenance.”

i never knew you couldn’t hail a cab in L.A. that doesn’t make sense to me. if we were to play word association and the word ‘hail’ was brought up, first thing i would say would be CAB. getting with the program los angeles. i dig it.
