>> Electric: A new alt car company called Fisker Automotive is apparently doing quite well. Fisker says its Karma, a plug-in hybrid set for release at the end of this year, will go from 0 to 60 in less than 6 seconds, have a 50-mile all-electric range (350-mile total range) and “the potential for a fuel economy of over 100 miles per gallon on extended drives” — all for the bargain price of $80,000.
>> Electric: Utilities may buy up a whole bunch of electric cars to encourage the electric car industry. Apparently, utilities are pretty psyched about cars charging up via their grid. (via Plenty)
>> Biofuel: Is the ethanol boom over? Corn ethanol plants are going out of business even before they get built. Of course, many environmentalists have long pointed out that corn ethanol is not a good, green car fuel. Catch up on the debate by reading Rolling Stone’s “The Ethanol Scam: One of America’s Biggest Political Boondoggles.”
>> Unrelatedly, the second part of Grist’s review of eco-minded feminine products is now up — and my product of choice, The Keeper, wins overall.
