Clicklist: Less guilt, more fun

Flexpetz logo>> Free rent-a-pets, and with fewer ethical concerns too, compared to Flexpetz. Helen Jupiter at blogging.la has a nice list of dogwalking — and other animal loving — opportunities. None of them seem to be in Santa Monica, but I’ll explore –

>> Car-free zones on the rise in the US. I’d be for making Main Street in Santa Monica a car-free zone — Who’s with me? (via grist)

>> Good beer just doesn’t get the attention it deserves. I’m into fair trade, but not all that psyched about beer, so I tend to skip reading Chris’ posts though I liked his book and he’s all about the environment and fair trade. But if you’re into beer, you should totally check out how beer’s the new champagne — and how beer’s the answer.

>> The Adventures of KabMan’s a game I suck at. I know what to recycle, but my eye-hand coordination isn’t so strong after a few drinks. (via grist)

  1. I’m with you one-thousand percent on Main Street!

How about parts of downtown Pasadena? And Pine Ave in Long Beach?

  2. I’ve been advocating that Fountain be made an all bike street.

As for the dog situation, try K9 Connection in Santa Monica. You have to apply to volunteer, but then you can get all the doggie goodness you want.

  3. Siel – thanks for the shoutout. Here’s something else that should make you want to shout: I’m planning to visit a fair trade winery in Chile this June! It’s the producer whose wines are sold in the US by Etica Fair Trade. I lean heavy on the beer but I’m an equal opportunity green/fair trade imbiber.

Oh, and one more news item: it’s looking probable that I’ll be working on a second book soon. This one is about one of your favorite topics. I’ll probably know in the next couple weeks whether I’m going to go forward with it. If I do then I’ll want to chat with you about it.

    Cheers,
    Chris

  4. Are we talking about Fountain in Hollywood? I’d be totally for turning that into a bike lane — The times I’ve driven it, it’s always felt kinda dangerous — Narrow streets, random pedestrian crossings, cars speeding through –

I just downloaded a k9 Connection volunteer app — Thanks for the tip!

Chris — I’ve tried the Etica wine. Hope you have a fun visit!
